Offset language doesn't apply to trades. The team picking up the player picks up
the contract.

Occasionally teams will agree for the trading team to pick up a portion of the player salary of the receiving team, but unless a player is waived and clears waivers, offset language does not come into play.

In other words, the only way offset language would come into play would be if the Jets cut Zach Wilson, and another team did not claim him off waivers. At that point, if another team signed him then offset language would come into play. But it does not come into play during trades.

During trades, the compensation to the trading team is whatever the receiving team gives up as part of the trade. That could be players or draft picks, but the trading team receives compensation.

If a team cuts a player who still has guaranteed money, and the player actually clears waivers, then offset language would come into effect. That has happened to first-round draft picks one time in the previous 10 years. It almost never occurs.
