The sand on the tape is definitive proof the tape was contacted by the ball
You can see the sand on the tape bounce in the air and then come back to rest on the tape. Unless physics/Newton are both wrong, that is indisputable video evidence.

The whole thing was asinine.

They probably should have taken the red card

Not just complained, but challenged the initial challenge and somehow got it

Replay showed the tape move…..

The sand on the tap bounced up off the tape which would only happen if the ball

Not necessarily. The ball hitting the sand first could project it outward and

Watch the replay…..the sand on the tape was a foot away.

I thought of this, but it wouldn't launch the sand on the tape like what

That's not what happened

Usually in that type of situation, if the ref really feels it's not clear, they just replay the point. Makes no sense.

How does that even happen?

According to the officials, Newton and basic physics are both wrong.

Who has the authority to overrule the original call?

I'm not sure, but I think the third challenge goes to the UN

The announcer said something like "there will definitely be a 2-minute report"

I think he was just making a joke.

When the ump makes a bad call you accept it and move on

Very good points. Plus the video evidence is definitive.

what's the deal with volleyball refs? Remember BYU volleyball a few years ago

All I can see is the face in the sand to the right of tape just below the ball

Watch the sand sitting on the tape. It jumps straight up and lands back on tape

The tape moves. Watch the inside edge of the tape just above where the ball

Seems pretty obvious what happened,

Here’s the explanation. Still seems really sketchy.
