There is a tradeoff with conferences. Add more teams, you have more security. Add less teams, you have less money.

If the Little 8 want to better secure their conference, they need to give up a little bit of money to do it - just like buying insurance. Adding a few teams now would really strengthen their conference while Texas and Oklahoma are still around. Let a few of them get some wins, and get to play them at home to build up their base. You also take out the value of the AAC and MWC to better differentiate your product.

The SEC has done the ultimate college football Power Play. If the Little 8 want to maintain some power and prestige, they are making a big mistake by being cheap and not inviting teams early and often to build up their base.
