In our instance, once our player was subbed, the ref should come up to the line and allowed the defense to sub, if there were no subs, then he will leave the line and play will resume.

Utah decided to sub, so we would have had to wait for the sub to go through. The issue that arose though, was that the ref went up to the line to hold the play, as we were sending a sub. He was holding the play, but didn't even really acknowledge that Utah was subbing. He didn't realize Utah was subbing until it was too late, as can be seen with the ref running up to the line when we were hiking the ball. He should have been up there until the defense had finished their sub, but he was too late getting there.
