Does it look bad to have a W (withdrawal) on your BYU transcript?
Student is feeling overwhelmed with 17 credits and a job. Thinking about withdrawing from one class.
What are the implications of withdrawing? It would be the first /only time.

I think it goes on the transcript as an Unofficial Withdrawal and counts against the gpa like an "F". If you retake the

I don’t think it counts against your gpa

Granted, I am going off of what used to happen many years ago.

I had a couple of those. Hasn't mattered for me, but it probably depends on who's looking.

I withdrew from a bunch… and failed a few as well.

Fortunately I had mine a long time ago. Just a tad too immature for college

I doubt any employer will look that closely or care.

One or two over 4 years shouldn’t be a big deal at all. Especially if the

I have a LOT of Ws. Battled with health issues a lot while enrolled.

No big deal if it's only a couple. If there are a lot it looks bad. But a few

When I was a freshman, some idiot I know stopped going to a class because it was at 4:00 and cramped his social life

I think one or two Ws isn't a real problem. They don't affect GPA if you

I logged a few Ws at BYU, good grades and got into a top ranked graduate program

I've never looked at an applicant's gpa, let alone individual class grades.

unless he or she has grad school aspirations it won't matter one bit.

It likely won't be a problem even for grad school if it's one or two Ws.

It would probably prevent admission into med or dental school

I even got a UW in a class once. Didn't matter at all in graduate school
