Then when reading the finals schedule, he looked at the wrong table (day class vs. evening), so he missed that too. He shrugged his shoulders and went home for Christmas. Later, his report card showed up with a "UW" (unauthorized withdrawal) on it. It counted the same as an F.

This was when they used to send Freshman report cards home, so the idiot's father saw it. The idiot tried to convince his father that this was a completely normal thing where you withdraw after a certain time, but it's really not a big deal. The fact that the GPA showed on the report card as like a 1.8 kind of undermined his argument (this was not the idiot's only issue that semester. He also had an 8:00 class), and the father was furious.

On the bright side, I re-took the class after my mission and got an A.

This was all years and years ago, so not sure about today, but then, a withdrawal after the official period counted as a failed class.
