We don’t have to choose between the two. Coaches can develop at schools that
are not direct competitors to BYU. Bronco and Whittingham are 100% direct competitors with BYU.
BYU is not better off when they lose recruiting battles vs UVA or UU. That is a fact.
So why not focus on getting better recruits when we go head to head with Bronco rather than worrying about who BYU can hire in the future?
If BYU is successful they will continue to be in a P5 conference and that will get BYU quality coaches. Because it’s all about money in the end. BYU must win to bring in money, and winning in recruiting significantly impacts winning on the field. We can see that this year.
