Only if you want to compare times.
You really shouldn’t be comparing times in XC though. Courses and weather change so much. Plus the distances are almost never measured right. If you see a set of fast times, you can almost guarantee the course is flat and 100m short. Even year to year, courses that are supposedly the same will actually have slightly different distances.
