The 69 is a 3 on the tree manual transmission which is really fun. It has no power steering, drum breaks and it drivers like a 50 year old vehicle.
It is so fun to drive. My son learned how to drive in this beauty. He even wanted to drive it for his drivers test but the speedometer was acting up and didn’t want him to fail on that. It’s been my sons daily driver but the carburetor left him stranded a few times so we added the EFI.
Th 85 is a true unicorn. Usually when I say 85 people say “there are not 85 FJ40’s”! Although Toyota quit producing the FJ40 in 84, a plant in Venezuela produced them for on more year.
The 85 is an amazing ride. It has a 4 speed transmission (plan to upgrade to 5 Speed H55 trans). It also has power steering and disk breaks. It turns on a dime and is effortless to drive compared to the 69.
