Ever since having kids I am late to anything that requires bringing kids
I expect people to start things without me and we will join 20-40 mins late. That way I don't waste their time.

Selfishness, arrogance, poor time management. Don't care about being rude.

All these plus procrastination and over-committing themselves to other things. People with this mindset can rationalize

It’s generally trying to do too much in too little time. And poor planning.

Or exquisite planning to avoid helping with any of the work..just show up like a rock star and expect to get fawned over

I don’t it’s that simple, and I don’t think it’s just because people are turds.

I don't think they believe that they are that late that often.

Bad time management in all cases I know of.

It’s part of my family’s culture unfortunately. But at least it’s not Brazil,

That is the same excuse my sister uses, but I don't understand how she can get

Because we see school as critical and a family event as non-critical.

My brother in law uses this excuse. But he was late to everything before having kids, now he just has someone to blame.

If you’re not 3 minutes early you’re 5 minutes late

In my book, 5 minutes late to a social event is on time.

Nothing wrong with being late to things if you give people a heads up first

There is stuff wrong with it.

Of course he doesn’t think so. Or he’d be on time

As someone with really bad ADHD, I was late for almost everything for a long

Tell them you’re starting 1/2 hour earlier than you really are.

People enable the late-comers. Set a time. Start on time. If they are late - that's their problem. Don't enable them

Lots of anger issues in this thread. Maybe people come late to your events

Some truth to this. I am far more likely to get my family on time

I notice it’s an anxiety thing. I think some people slow down under pressure

It could be cultural...some cultures run on event time instead of clock time

I’ve been told more than once that expecting punctuality is “racist”
seacougar

I wouldn't go that far but it IS cultural and our expectation of clock time
