Not sure why you can’t innocently take it back in and say something still seems

wrong. As long as you don’t make a huge deal about it and cuss people out I’m not sure how your BIL could get mad at you for taking your car back in. Shops deal with cars coming back in all the time, and it’s not like you are going out of your way to make him look bad. Unless they are absolute crooks you shouldn’t have to get nasty about it.
