You want to emphasize the regular season more? Answer: regular season champs.
I know, I know - the MLS doesn't want to use the promotion/relegation system. But that system rewards the best regular season team and provides for a lot of lower-league entertainment.
I'd love for the MLS to do away with playoffs and just do a cup competition (or two) like the FA cup in England.
