Generally qbs want to get rid of the ball quickly. When a defense rushes extra guys, it creates more passing lanes for him to do just that. If your most gifted defenders are linebackers, it makes the most sense to keep everything in front of you and let them make the plays.
It's not ideal and it definitely isn't emotionally satisfying, but unless you have exceptional talent at every level of your defense, modern strategy is a 'pick your poison' scenario.
I happen to believe Tuiaki is picking the right poison. I hope that as BYU's personnel continues to improve, so will the aggressiveness and the variety of defensive gameplans.
