It leaves many with an unsatisfactory feeling, as it feels incomplete. Yes, each team is awarded a point and that can definitely be consequential in the Big picture of a season, but why not give fans what they came for? Give them the feeling of getting money’s worth by allowing it to go to kicks.
I am not a huge soccer fan, but decided to watch the Real SL and Seattle Playoff game. It was so boring watching Real stall and slow the game through 90 minutes and extended time without a single attempt on goal. It was actually frustrating, not only for me, but my soccer crazed bro in law, who coaches, personal trains, and previously worked for Real. He understood why it would push fans away had that game ended in a tie.
That being said, as soon as they went to kicks, it was awesome and so much fun to watch. That last 20 minutes of seeing which goalie would stop 1 first, erased all the boring strap techniques and lame fake injury dives by both teams. (They really need to find the Seattle Sniper that was taking out all the players, who miraculously, were able to jump right back up after the horrible pain they looked to be in, screaming and all. ) Why not give the fans what they want, and raise overall viewership in the process? A lot more people would convert to the sports if the fake injuries and tie possibility, was removed.
