I am a drummer and played in a top notch marching band in NC while in High School. It was intense. Football players no joke strapped on their instruments to join us for half time show. Marching bands elsewhere in college football are awesome and add to the atmosphere. They are exciting, their shows are up to date and very relevant, often poking fun at opponent. Our band plays opposing team fight song (nobody else does that) and the shows are very vanilla and generic. We composed and played songs that were up to date in a week's time while playing in the stands. We need the marching band to upgrade to BiG 12 status with the rest of the school quick. Currently it's a bit embarrassing. When I wanted to check out the percussion program 22 years ago after high school I met various directors and knew it wouldn't be my jam or what I was used to as far as talent, performance and respect.
