Second jobs seem more common now. I have a second job, started so my wife didn’t
Have to work, but now we are kind of use to the income and we probably couldn’t go back to me just having my primary job.

I won’t give numbers, because that’s awkward, but We live in Orange County. I am a physical therapist and make probably on the higher end of what someone would make working in an outpatient private clinic. My wife had a part time job that she could do from home that was outsourced when my kids were very young. Instead of her getting another job, I got a second job. job/business doing home health. This was the answer to our very sincere prayers. The other thing that made sense was that I can make around double the rate/money (per hour) doing home health as I make in the clinic (which is really hard to pass up). Problem is, I like the clinic better so I still work there full time and I am doing 20-30 hours of home health. So now I make around 150% from home health; doing less hours than I do in the clinic but both jobs add up to a decent living (which is more than the “average” physician).

I work hard and work a lot of hours but I’d rather work a little more and make a lot more money than have my wife away from kids and work a lot more for a little more money. Sometimes it stresses me out, but usually I am fine with it and I do a lot of charting from home, so I am not gone as much. I look at it like, “in times when the crops are plentiful, is the farmer going to sit back and let them die and say, ‘I should only have to work 40hrs a week?’” Or is he going to get to work?
