My main point (which you are ignoring) is that Zach also had off-season shoulder surgery on this THROWING arm. He had no opportunity to improve in the off-season ... couldn't throw, couldn't lift. Is it really that surprising he didn't have a great Soph year?

Yes he did. His ribs were obviously not healed when he played the first few games afterwards. Played completely
