Not really. It’s like kids. Sometimes all the best training (parenting) in the
world makes no difference.

My last dog I spent so many hours working with to train him to not run out the door, not run by anyone on the stairs, behave on walks, etc etc. After year 3 he grew out of puppy stage and was pretty well behaved. By year 8 he was great. Year 9 he suddenly had a heart attack. Loved that dog but I got cheated out of at least 2 good years after all the hard work.

I was ready for a break. Wife couldn’t wait and the kids wanted another one. We got a puppy 5 months later. Same breed. He is super shy, pees or runs away from anything, worthless hunting dog, lays down in the most inconvenient place every time, will eat till his stomach explodes, and though we NEVER feed him from the table he tries to sniff every piece of food I get out of the fridge. He’s just wired this way. He won’t run away like the first dog, but he’s sooooo needy and scared it takes all of my self control to not lose it when he pees himself.

Whew. Anyone want a dog?
