As someone who’s had 5 jobs in the last six years, I can tell you a few things
I left a large fortune 50 company to work for a small company that was in a fun niche market. It was fun and I learned a lot about small business and eventually was laid off. Only after 8 months in the company. I then found myself at a startup. Was there for about a year and change and left because of the money. I took a huge pay decrease and the options sucked but it was cool to be a part of a startup at the beginning. Then I went to a midsize publicly traded company. Went into it knowing it was a huge commute, 45 min in the morning and 1.5 hrs in the afternoon. I was in leading change management but ran into a lot of road blocks. Between that and the commute, I couldn’t take it anymore. Left for a good private midsize company where I’ve been for the last 2 years. Things happen. It makes for an interesting discussion but the only job that I feel poorly reflects on me is the last one prior to my current one. I feel like it can be interpreted as bailing on hard things but it is what it is. I’m happier for it.
