Great post.
Just have one comment about your concerns taxing the rich to give to goof-offs. Anyone of substance is against that. But that isn't the big problem. The big problem is the systematic, massive transfer of wealth from the hard-working middle class (NOT the goof-offs) to the extremely wealthy over the past several decades. The wealthy have absorbed all the gains from a tremendous economic boom the US enjoyed from the 40s through the 90s that is probably unparalleled in history. The government, through either action or inaction, takes from the middle class to give to BOTH the poor and the uber wealthy (look at taxes, the super wealthy pay effective tax rates of 5 to 15% or something, much lower than middle class Americans). Because the uber wealthy don't want to support the poor, and they don't have to. They have the power to make the middle class do it, so they do. It's not a level playing field because the people at the top of the biggest corporations have all manner of corporate-friendly law on their side that allows boards and CEOs to take from their employees with no repercussions.
