“But pensions” is a dumb distraction. While there are very few jobs that offer
pension benefits anymore, I’ll bet there are even fewer CBers who would be interested in the kinds of jobs where pensions are available (like the military, postal service, public education, local PD/FD and other govt or church jobs). I’ll bet most CBers don’t want anything to do with those career paths.
I’d guess most CBers would much rather self-fund our retirement via 401k, IRA and other savings vehicles in exchange for the freedom and upward mobility and dynamic career paths that generally aren’t associated with jobs that offer pensions.
