There are a lot of rules currently in implementation that benefit transparency
They’re not going away. Hospitals have resisted much more than payers to these rules though neither like them.
That $279 number is likely a billed charge not an allowed amount or contracted rate. Fake numbers from the providers. I’ve never paid $50 for an office visit through insurance unless there were labs or add ons to the office visit
