The limitations on the Jazz roster have little/nothing to do with Gobert's contract but rather with him as a player. The options were to let him walk and start a rebuild, or to resign him and hope that another piece (DM) could raise the ceiling of the team. Is Rudy worth $40M, no. But even if he were paid $25M a year the Jazz would have the same financial constraints.
