What I do believe is that it's absolutely necessary for our staff to identify special talent & then to lure it in. Developing it is also important — but to an even larger extent than with the men, it's secondary. And then there's the whole XOs aspect, etc.

Honestly, there's no one on Juddy's current staff that strikes me as being the level of recruiter that we need. Juddy himself wasn't all that great, either. (We were very fortunate Shaylee Gonzalez was dead set on coming to BYU — despite her myriad of offers elsewhere. We were also very fortunate several years earlier that an athletic genius standing in a very long 6'7" frame saw no other option in her collegiate career but to follow her parents to BYU.) Imo, though — all in all we need a better, more driven recruiter at the helm than what Juddy has mustered over the last couple decades. And nothing has ever given me any reason to believe Ray Stewart or Lee Cummard brought ANYTHING special to the team as recruiters. They both came off to me as mere card-punchers in that regard. Taking off to places like New Zealand doesn't move the meter for me in terms of recruiting prowess — unless they can come back with the level of talent that proves they weren't just going out there to look like a bigtime program. I'd much rather they stay home & take their lumps battling for those girls that everyone & their dawg wants over here in the states. Not every one of them will be BYU fits, of course — but we need a staff dedicated to busting their humps & locating the special talent that WOULD be willing to come to an odd-fit place like BYU BECAUSE they believe that much in the HC at the helm of our program.

Odd fit or not, BYU is a GREAT academic institution. If we can hire coaches willing to lay it on the line for the top players out there — they WILL come to our school if they can find trust in our coach. It's the model & plan that Pope, Kalani, Taylor & the Olmsteads are currently winning with (& winning in ways that they are growing stronger by the year).
