Look at it to see where she’s invested as far as risk and diversification. It’s not a bad idea to be less weighted to the tech stocks now, or to have some cash. But she may be closer to the low than had she cashed out of higher valuation stocks weeks to months ago. As others have pointed out she doesn’t need to liquidate unless she needs the money. She can choose to sell some losers to cash, or even take out 10K to buy ibonds (a safe higher yield option).

In my ira I’m at 50% cash, 25% oil, 15% longer term winners, and 15% short hedges, which has really helped limit my losses. But at some point I need to start buying back in as we get closer to the lows. Tried starting some of that this week and sadly many of my new positions are already down 5-10% with the drops the past few days. I typically try and use a 10% stop loss so not sure what I’ll do with new positions if we’re down again Monday. May sale some of my oil winners as it seems as if some oil stocks may be hitting a short term high, still have nice dividends though to help cushion them as they go down.

My prediction is the market will be close to a bottom once aapl hits 118. So may wait for that level to buy any more tech stocks. It’s really hard to pick the bottom. On the other hand the shutdown in china and inflation is going to hurt a lot of stocks so the lows may not be until after the next quarterly report, which could be bad. Recession.
