Since you will be traveling around the region, you may also enjoy visiting the Williamsburg/Jamestown/Yorktown area.

Also I took my son to a Nationals game a few weeks ago while we were in the area and we had a great time. It is super easy to get to via the Metro.

The better air and space museum is the one out by Dulles. They have an SR-71 Blackbird. The coolest plane ever.
