I’m baffled that so many thought that Kalani would be a great coach out the gate. Same goes for Tuiaki. Let’s be real, both had big shoes to follow. It’s called on the job learning. You get what you pay for BYU. For all the Bronco haters out there who called for his head; you may not have liked Bronco but he was an excellent coach in a lot of ways. Not perfect (particularly in recruiting and hiring other coaches) but I think he over achieved at BYU with what he had to work with.

As for Kalani, I love that he got the job and he is now coming into his own. I knew he would be a great coach but also knew he had a lot to learn coming in green. Tuiaki is the same. Both are getting better each year. Give this some time and patience. It’s not like BYU has this huge coaching pool to choose from.

I will say this. BYU is in a better position with Kalani at the helm. He has proven multiple times over to be an excellent judge of talent (both players and coaches).

He had to lay off buddies, fire legends, brings in a first time OC who crushed it despite the optics involved while having to deal with critics, totally revamped the OL and secondary, brought back elite quarterbacks, put RBs and WRs in the NFL, hired a relative who has crushed it when critics argued he was hiring another bro, hired another OC from our arch enemy who crushed it too despite so many critics, has put more players in the NFL than prior yrs), has out recruiter his predecessor and brought back a cool vibe to BYU and Provo. If Kalani says he has his guy, I trust him. HASNT HE EARN THIS STATUS? He hasn’t proven to be soft when faced with tough choices. He fired a bro already who by the way was going through a tough loss of a child at the time. Give Kalani and Tuiaki a little longer leash. I don’t think the grass is greener.
