To get on BYU's radar from outside Utah, you need to make a high-level all
tournament team, all american team or all region team, or be selected for one of the USA baseball National Team Development Program participants.

PerfectGame's all america teams have about 50 players listed as first team, 50 for second team, 50 for third team, and about 600 for honorable mention. Pretty much all recruits from the past decade have at least landed on the honorable mention Perfect Game team. Perfect Game and ABCA/Rawlings also put out all-regional teams. You can probably get on BYU's radar if you make one of the all-region teams.

The other options is to participate in USA Baseball's developmental program and be good enough to be selected in the national tryout events. The one team development event I went to had about 500 kids who had been hand-picked by USA baseball to compete for spots within the developmental program. Pretty much all the kids who had made it to that level were future college players.

If you don't play on a level where you're participating in Perfect Game events to get on the Perfect Game lists and you're not pursuing and advancing in the USA Baseball program, then it's just a roll of the dice. You have to get in front of the coaches at a camp and amaze them as someone off the radar who scouting missed.
