I think the only way to pull off a complete separation would be to forbid teams from playing outside the B1G and SEC. Then have an “Alliance Championship Bowl” for the SEC VS B1G champs. Declare an “Alliance Champion”. That’s great. And it’d work. Except, except the polls will still be working. AP POLL isn’t going anywhere. Others polls will be around too. And what happens when one of the teams from the lesser conferences becomes so dominant that they receive more AP votes than the MEGA conferences? Then they will be declared the national champion. That’s what happened with BYU. And the major conferences freaked out because they lost control.

The mega conferences can control the format but they can’t fully control public opinion.
