Kevin Reynolds from the Trib today on Criddle show referenced a convo he had w/ Dr. Hill that said that Utah is a valuable add to the B12 for two reasons.
1.) They would bring the most valuable rivalry to the conference w/ BYU. (rich for a guy who wouldn’t always schedule BYU, and canceled our basketball game for “safety” reasons. Dave Rose once quoted the old Utah coach Jim Boylin (I think) as saying “my AD (Hill) doesn’t want the rivalry games”. Now that’s their unique marker for B12 inclusion??
2.) Utah is in a growing market.
That seems like a rather weak sales pitch tbh. I’m not sure how much a B12 conference benefits from another school in the same market.
I just don’t understand the logic of Cougar fans wanting Utah in the B12. That directly hurts and weakens our recruiting pool. It dilutes local interest and support. Utah as a G5 helps us, and forever weakens Utah’s reputation, financial resources, clout, and success. We’d benefit from much of that. Why do Criddle and other BYU fans root for the U to come to B12? As much as I love the rivalry game, I don’t value that over BYU’s long term success.
