in the PAC12 that USC and UCLA could possibly leave. “This is the conference of champions. We’re a better cultural and geographic fit. We’re in a position of strength. Nobody wants to leave”. PAC12 members could not, would not, consider that as a real possibility. Why? Because they didn’t WANT to believe it. THAT is confirmation bias.
Let’s be self aware. I know we don’t WANT any BIG12 teams to go to the PAC12 so we won’t entertain it as a real possibility and we are quick to dismiss arguments that support it.
Fact is, The PAC12, with UO and UW, could invite the best 6 BIG12 teams and be on similar footing financially to the current BIG12 with 4 PAC12 teams added (if you need sources, I can show them). It’d also be a better academic conference. It is a very real possibility. Dismissing it is simply a show of our confirmation bias. “We’re a better cultural and geographic fit. We’re in a position of strength. Nobody wants to leave”.
That’s what we WANT to believe.
