Intervention Needed
I lived in a neighborhood where the builder planted trees in a little 2' strip
Between the sidewalk and the street. Within 5-10 years every sidewalk was lifted and cracked and homeowners were having to pay to get it fixed.

Don't plant it. You gotta live next to the guy. And he's probably right about

I imagine a 20' tall tree would spread further than two feet under his driveway

I actually underestimated the length. It’s more like 4 feet.

A quick Google search showed that even though their roots grow down more and less wide, you’re still easily going to

Plant two of them. Lions, not sheep.

Is that with the original made in China label? Or false advertising USA label?

He's right. No way a large tree will not interfere with the driveway.

He’s wrong. He won’t be liable for it. You will.

That's a terrible place to plant a tree. You are certain to have issues with

I wouldn’t be happy if I were him. In fact, I’d dig down on my side of the

If it cracks his driveway, I would fix his driveway. It won’t

This isn't an argument you can win. Why are you so anxious to ruin neighbor relations over your idea? Let it go.

you might fix it but will the person who buys your house after you move and the tree is still there

Would you plant it 2 feet from the foundation of your house? I wouldn't.
Conan

Why do you say it won’t? Have seen it plenty of times. You can’t guarantee it.
Blue for Life

I’ll probably just plant a bush there instead.

Where is your property line? His driveway is within 2 ft of your property?

Yes

He added more driveway, so it’s a foot away from the property line.

Why would anyone want a tree 2 feet from driveway? Good way to ruin it down

Don't be a D, don't plant the tree

If you need some screening, plant some fine line buckthorn three feet from each

Two feet seems awfully close to a driveway. Difficult to open doors, leaves
