Sure in a perfect world both sides of the ball would be elite.
For whatever reason BYU rarely has an elite defense. So making that the standard seem unrealistic to me.

Historically it’s always been the offense that wins the game for us. So holding them to a higher standard seems more fair to me. You could argue that’s not fair but I think you would agree that is reality.

And it is completely the point. The statement was made we have had 10 win teams in spite of having poor defenses and my point exactly was we would have more wins per season if our offense was better not our defense.

How many more wins would we have if the defense held teams to 24 points or less and the offense output stayed the same? See below.

2016- 2 so it’s a draw this season
2017- 1 game would be a tie
2018 - 1 game
2019 - 1 game
2020- 0 games
2021 - 2 games (1 of which is a tie)

Point being, in the losses for all of Kalani’s tenure it has almost always been the offense underperforming. There are way more losses where the defense played well and the offense is why we lost.

Now if you want to analyze wins, sure there are probably lots more games where if the offense only score 24 points we would have lost, but in those games we won, the defense played good enough to win. And for a non P5 team with limited resources I would say that should be the standard.
