You can contrast scoring offense over the same time period... Aside from 2020, we've had pretty mediocre, and at times awful offensive production. (and lets not kid ourselves, while 2020 was a GREAT team, I'm not sure we would have finished with the 9th best scoring offense and the 3rd best scoring defense had we played last years, or this years schedule. Top 25 for both, but I doubt it would have been top 10.)

My point is, BYU's defense, and Tuiki aren't as bad as everyone wants to believe they are. In fact, the data would suggest BYU has had a better defense than offense 5 out of the 6 years Kalani has been coaching. Do you realize BYU only returned 16% of it's production last year, and against the most power5 teams we've ever played, they still fielded a nearly top 50 scoring defense? Sorry, but that's scheme and coaching.

This year, we have a nation leading 97% returning production, but we also have arguably the most difficult schedule we've ever had. We play some VERY explosive teams. Baylor, Oregon, Arkansas, just to name a few. Teams are going to score points, but BYU's defense should actually be pretty good. What I'm trying to say, is BYU still may not meet fans unrealistic expectations when it comes to the defense. That said, given the production, given the depth we finally have. I think we're going to see a top 25 scoring defense this year, even with the schedule we're going to face. Add that to the production we bring back on offense, and I think we're going to have a really good team.

Lets stop pretending that Tuiaki is our problem...
