I finally found time to read your whole post and respond.
First, I'm thrilled with the on field results the past 2 yrs. However, I also recognize exactly what those years were and realize that they're likely not reproducible without a significant upgrade to our defense. Tuiaki's scheme is fine against lower division teams where we have more talent and depth. Problem is, we're not playing those kind of schedules going forward.

As I've said before, no one 'hates' Tuiaki. Many (myself included) just think he's not the right guy for the job and hasn't improved in 6 yrs. The criticism is not based on ignorance despite what you think. Many websites break down teams using many different metrics. When they rank our defense as below average, is that ignorance? That's playing a partial P5 schedule at that (2020 being a full G5 schedule).

No one, to my knowledge, has ever claimed that the offense 'can do no wrong'. The conversation is typically about the defense because it is much weaker than the offense at this time. That was completely the opposite during the Detmer years. The defense wasn't great then (although 2016 was good with Bronco's players) but was much better than the offense. Our defense is not designed to get the ball back quickly so our offense ends up with poor starting field position much of the time. The odds of scoring go way down as the starting position gets worse.

Have you even looked at Tuiaki's coaching experience before being given the DC job? It's just possible that Tuiaki gets cut more slack because his defense hasn't been truly horrible like Detmer's offenses and that he has a history with Sitake.

I don't really pay any attention to the formations that the defense lines up in. I'm looking at stats like how we were last in the nation last year at possessions where an opposing offense gains zero or negative yardage. LAST. Also, we were nearly last in opponent drives that gained at least one first down. We were nearly last at 3rd and 4th down defense. Keep in mind that we didn't play a full P5 schedule.

You do realize that pressure on the QB is pretty important right? It doesn't have to happen on every down but it has to happen occasionally. Weird how ordinary (sometime backup) QBs have career passing nights against us isn't it? We don't even try to confuse the opposing offense.

You weren't paying attention if you didn't think our Bronco led defenses were not that good. 2008 was Jaime Hill's first as DC. Bronco took over the defense part way through the 2010 season. After starting the 2010 season 1-4 and with the defense ranked 101st, Bronco took over for the final 8 games and went 6-2 with the defense finishing ranked 33rd.

2007 - ranked 37th
2008 - ranked 73rd
2009 - ranked 41st
2010 - ranked 33rd
2011 - ranked 44th
2012 - ranked 14th
2013 - ranked 18th
2014 - ranked 64th
2015 - ranked 40th

Here is Tuiaki's prior coaching experience before BYU. What in his resume screams Defensive Coordinator to you? He had more experience on the offensive side of the ball. Yet, you don't think we can find better.
