Utah is the perfect example: Their play was not sufficient to get them into the top 12 of best teams in the country. As mentioned above, beating a more-highly-ranked (less exposed) team gave them far less of a boost than beating the same team when they were ranked lower and had been more exposed?

It only makes sense if the system is biased to essentially arbitrarily place all P5 champions into the top 12. Just like BB42 said, and as you basically admitted as well (though you’ll probably deny that now).
