I've said time and again to patients and colleagues alike, insurance companies
Will kill more patients than malpractice likely ever will. I've had a number of experiences now where patients clearly needed surgery but insurance insisted that physical therapy and numerous tests be "checked off" before they'll cover the procedure. By the time we finally get the surgery covered, they sometimes need a different surgery because things have been screwed up so bad.
