If we are trying to envision a path where this might occur, they could say that the presence and direction of college athletics is not in keeping with the core missions of a university. That the creation of a professional level for college sports drives an irreparable wedge in the life of college sports and that a return to true amateurism is more in keeping with the goals and missions of their universities.
They see, as the Ivy League saw, that the amateur model was the only way for college athletics to exist and that the AD is a sideshow in regards to the actual research and academic environment created by universities.
I still don't think they reject it but that is the path I could see for them.
