If you can't get into BYU (70% acceptance rate and the 89th ranked college), then school experience is probably more
valuable than the academics.
I would choose UVU over BYU-I for my kids if they didn't get into BYU (unless they are really religious and would love the religious aspect of BYU-I... which is true for at least one of my four kids)

At this point you can go to UVU, live in Provo with BYU students, go to a “BYU” YSA ward, attend BYU events
