Holker is leaving because he wants to be part of an offense that features the TE and gets him more targets.
He’s transferring to Utah. That hasn’t been made officially public, but he’s 100% going there. Go ahead and bookmark this post to come back later and rub it in my face if I’m wrong. He wants to go there because he looks how much TE usage they have in their offense. Only there’s a problem with that thinking. He’s not Brant Kuithe.
You see he went down with a season ending injury and Utah hasn’t been in nearly as many 2 TE sets since. It’s been significantly less. In fact their OC has deliberately changed up his play calling and tried featuring the WR corps much more.
In the Oregon State game Utah’s other TE Dalton Kincaid was targeted a whopping 3 times the entire game. Kincaid is considered a future NFL TE. Even more so than Kuithe. You see while Kuithe’s talents make him a tough matchup at the collegiate level Kincaid is considered a more well rounded TE and will likely be a 2nd day draft pick.
Holker is a talented player. There’s no doubting that. He absolutely is. He’s also not on the level of Kuithe and Kincaid. An OC doesn’t find him special enough like he does Kuithe to change the entire way he calls games and structures an offense. He’ll find because of this Utah’s OC won’t give him many more targets than ARod did.
The grass isn’t always greener.
