decision, if you're not all in, then hurry and get all out. Neither me or my wife are dog people, but we caved to the dog pressure and it was a horrible experience for everyone involved (including the poor dog). Looking back it made absolutely no sense: our kids were pre-teens and heavily involved with club sports. Wrong breed (shed a ton and was very high maintenance). Lots of destruction in the house and yard. Re-homing was an emotional rollercoaster.
Like I said, self-inflicted disaster.
