That what you are asking for, while completely correct, is a bit of a pipe dream. Sports fans by nature, in all sports, will complain and call coaches and players out. I'm not sure sanity and logic and rational have a heavy amount to do with it. Fan is short for fanatic, not logical observer.
And one may point to BYU fans should behave differently, and I agree, shouldn't BYU players and coaches logically be expected to behave differently? And yet, the use of swear words is very common language in the player and coach realm.
Another piece here, this is really often a therapy board where fans come to vent their frustrations. Not sure of another venue where that can really be offered. Much of that venting is happening in the heat of the moment, during games and fans are messaging with knee jerk reactions. Unfortunately, a lot of that frustration fuels the fires more on social media.
I guess what I'm saying is, you are spot on, but I'm not sure what you've proposed is realistic. Fans will continue to behave badly, especially in the anonymous land of social media.
With all that said, I do think BYU fans are a much better group in behavior than many fan bases and markets across the country. Poor Zach Wilson is in a meat grinder market.
I do appreciate the post however because I believe it's greatly needed and is a stark reminder to us all that we really can be better and can raise our manner of posts on social media to more useful and helpful ways. I for one am going to take your council and strive to be more positive in my posts.
