the bigger picture concerning the scheme BYU was employing on Defense and its ultimate limitations were not recognized when it was employed. Would it enable guys to get to the NFL? Reach their full potential and showcase that potential? Attract Defensive recruits especially on the D line? Was it ultimately a great scheme to win? Was it aggressive and dominant? Did it help the offense by getting the opposing O off the field as quick as possible? etc. etc.
It's like they had to learn the hard way. That is where having experienced coaches, with vision, leadership, desire to win etc. comes in. Can make or break a program as winning makes all the difference.
