This is the main reason for us. Things transfer without having to go through
probate.
And it's not a rich vs poor thing. Even if the 'estate' is small it saves time and probably money. Without a trust, if theres not much to divvy up, you could spend just much to sort it out as ends up getting sorted out but with added headache.
