My kids have had club basketball and soccer available to them since they were 5. Tackle football starts at 6 (if you want, i think that’s too young). With the exception of snowy days, I think they’ve played sports at recess every day of their lives. They actually regularly get football banned for a week because they get too intense and start tackling instead of touch. I also can’t think of a single kid they are friends with that doesn’t have some sort of sport they participate in.

Maybe my area is unique, but I definitely don’t see a lack of participation around us.
