If it's really bad news they'll usually make an appt to talk in person
If it's kind of bad news or needs a next step (another test), sometimes its the doc waiting until there is a break in their schedule to have a longer conversation over the phone or at the end of the day when free.
Usually it's just the fact that he/she is busy or out of town why you haven't heard back.

The ordering physician has to confirm that he/she has reviewed the results before it posts to the portal.
