Glad Vegas is taking it seriously, but the entire Colorado River system needs to get it together, including California
who draws off, Phoenix, and Utahans who desperately need to water alfalfa for some reason. Water rights are becoming more and more a “use it or lose it” tragedy of the commons.
Combined with an environmental hesitancy to build reservoirs, lowering water tables, and increasing population in the west, we’re all going to have to figure out how to act a little more Vegas-ish.
That’s good news, but I keep thinking:
1) Not a lot of agriculture in Vegas, which is largely what Utah spends its water on and needs to be figured out.
2) Water doesn’t fall on a per-capita basis. A 1/2 reduction is awesome, but improvement on this issue has to be measured in total consumption vs supply.
