P5 schools have to guarantee scholarships for four years or in some cases until
Graduation. It doesn’t affect G5 or FCS teams
The split is happening slowly each year the P5 add additional expenses to the cost of memberships for the top 80 or so schools. At some point in time some schools will say enough is enough or a whole conference will bow out of the arms race
Rules I could see the P5 adopting
- attendance can only be reported as tickets punched
- no student athletic fees that are mandatory, they must be elective
- medical coverage for injuries sustained while playing. Much easier for schools that own med schools
- tutors traveling with the teams if gone more than two days
