continued school at the graduate level. She took an 8 year hiatus to raise kids, and now works part time again and loves it. Nursing has so many diverse settings, it's not all grueling hospital work. My wife has done hospital, ER, same day surgery, and now pain clinic. Now she works from the morning to the early afternoon and is done for the day. Pay has gone up over the years and there is no end in sight for demand.
