Yes. The fact is that most programs in the country are in the red. Football

Programs foot the bill for all the other sports, most of the time, including basketball. Making universities pay players, rather than allowing players to get sponsorships, or in addition to allowing players to get sponsorships, will either increase the burden on tax payers for most schools, or directly drive the majority of athletic departments into the ground.
